LANDMARK INCREASE IN FUNDING FOR ALZHEIMER’S RESEARCH

On June 23, 2015 the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services approved a 60% increase in funding allocated for Alzheimer’s research! This is amazing news for all Americans and the researchers working hard towards eliminating the disease. The 60% increase will equate to approximately $350 million. This historic decision highlights Alzheimer’s increasing threat as a result of its continued prevalence, enormous cost and lack of treatment.

Harry Johns, the president and CEO of the Alzheimer’s association says “This bipartisan prioritization of the Alzheimer’s crisis […] demonstrates that leaders heard the pleas of our advocates and the counsel of scientists to address this devastating and costly disease that has been underfunding for too long.”

If this increase becomes law, it will be the largest annual increase in federal Alzheimer’s funding in history! Hopefully, with this increase large steps towards eliminating and preventing the disease can be taken. If this goal is met by 2025, the nation will save $220 billion within the first five years of treatment being available.

Thank you to our advocates and supporters for making this happen.
